How much flooring do I need?
Measure the floor area, then add an allowance for cuts and waste before converting the total into boxes or packages using the coverage printed on the flooring.

- Measure the actual floor footprint.
- Waste allowance helps cover cuts, defects and pattern matching.
- Package coverage varies by product.
- Whole boxes normally need to be rounded up.
Calculate area before packages
Length × width gives the base area for a rectangular room. Apply the chosen waste allowance to that area before dividing by package coverage.
Irregular rooms can be split into simple sections and added together.
Use the product’s real box coverage
Do not assume all flooring boxes cover the same area. The package label is the final bridge between the geometric estimate and the number of boxes to buy.
Quick questions.
Is 10% waste always enough?
No. Pattern, room shape and material can justify a different allowance.
Should I round boxes up?
Usually yes, because partial boxes generally cannot be purchased.
