What this calculator does

Overtime pay is calculated separately from regular pay because overtime hours can use a different rate multiplier. NumLuma lets you set the multiplier directly instead of assuming that every workplace or jurisdiction uses the same rule.

What to know before you use the result

  • Regular pay = regular rate × regular hours.
  • Overtime pay = regular rate × overtime multiplier × overtime hours.
  • The calculator does not determine whether particular hours legally qualify as overtime.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming every overtime situation uses 1.5×.
  • Entering total weekly hours as overtime hours instead of only the overtime portion.
  • Treating the gross estimate as take-home pay.

Quick answers

About the overtime pay calculation.

What is time and a half?

It means an overtime multiplier of 1.5, so a $20 regular rate becomes $30 per overtime hour.

Does overtime always start after 40 hours?

Rules vary by jurisdiction, job classification and employer policy. This tool calculates the pay once you provide the regular and overtime hours; it does not decide legal eligibility.

Can I calculate double time?

Yes. Set the overtime multiplier to 2.0 if that is the rate you want to model.

Does this include taxes?

No. The result is estimated gross pay.
